Milton "Dutch" Albert Priess

Milton Albert Priess, 87 of Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home in Red Wing. He was born August 12, 1926 in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, son of Albert W. and Margaret (Michaels) Priess. He lived in Maiden Rock until the 3rd grade and then moved to Ellsworth, WI where he attended and graduated from Ellsworth High School. In 1944, he enlisted in the Navy where he served in the Mojave Desert. In 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Ellsworth. He met his wife La Rose Metcalf at a dance in Stockholm, WI. In 1951, the couple married in Plum City at St. John the Baptist Church. The couple moved to Red Wing in 1953 where he worked at the Red Owl, National Foods, and Super Valu, which was renamed to County Market, as a meat cutter. He retired in 2000. Milton was a member of the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post # 54 and the Church of St. Joseph. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, golf, traveling and he was an unabashed Green Bay Packers fan. He loved Big Band music, to dance and tell stories, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family and grandkids.
Milton is survived by his loving wife, LaRose; children, Cathy (Larry) Priess-Perrott, Jeff (Lynn) Priess and Teresa Grubb; grandchildren, Mathew (Justine) Priess, Jonathan Priess, Sarah (Adam) Mitchell, Bryan Perrott, Maggie Perrott, Claire Perrott, Benjamin Grubb and Elliot Grubb; great grandson, Owen Mitchell and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Priess; and his parents.
Mass of resurrection will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Home Care and Hospice or the Church of St. Joseph. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
