Milton John Hayman died shortly before noon at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, Minnesota, on Monday, March 26, 2012. He was peaceful, attended by his wife and son.
Milt was born in Red Wing, the son of Charles William and Dorathea Augusta (Issendorf) Hayman, on May 17, 1928. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1946, joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He attended the University of Minnesota from 1948-1952. In that year he married Marilyn Jeanne Fiedler. They lived in Prior Lake until he retired in 1978, and then moved to Maiden Rock, Wisconsin.
Milt was a loyal and loving husband and father. He enjoyed his home and gardens, and long walks in the woods where he created a playground for hiking and cross-country skiing, which became a gathering place for the neighborhood. People who knew him appreciated his generosity and good humor.
Milt was a thoughtful man who craved new experiences. He traveled widely to see other lands and met other people, whom he decided all shared the same dreams for life as we do. He loved the mountains where he enjoyed hiking and skiing.
Milt was a serious man who appreciated the wit and wisdom found in great books. His favorite music was by Mozart, Chopin and Verdi. He felt he wanted to be uplifted by the beauty of the world and avoided things morbid, crass and ugly.
He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 59 years; his son, Thomas and wife, Martha Turner of St. Charles, IL; two grandsons, Andrew and Michael of St. Charles, IL and his sister, Adeline Deden of Red Wing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edith and Janet Golisch and brothers, Robert and Wilbur.
A private graveside service was held at Oakwood Cemetery. His family wishes for people to remember him as he was in life.
