Mildred Wood, 96, of Red Wing, formerly of Lake City, died peacefully at St. Crispins Living Community on Monday, April 13, 2020. Mildred was born Sept 26, 1923 to Anton and Julia (Schmidt) Bechel in Plum City, Wisconsin. On August 29, 1940 she married LeRoy Wood. LeRoy died in 1988. She worked helping other families, cleaning, cooking and babysitting. She was a very hard worker. She liked to garden, picnic, play cards and to fish. She was a great quilter and volunteered with St. Mary of Lake Mission Sewing Group as well as making many quilts for her family. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children; Judy (Dave) Britton of Estes Park, Colorado, Jerry Wood of Arkansaw, Wisconsin, and Linda (Neal) Schafer of Red Wing; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wood of Williamsburg, Virginia; son-in-law, William Banks of Michigan; sister-in-law, Violet Bechel of Winona, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, LeRoy; one son, Richard Wood; one daughter, Pam; 10 siblings; daughter-in-law, Kathy; one granddaughter and her parents.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at St. Mary of Lake Catholic Church in Lake City. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City. Online condolences maybe left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
