Mick McDowell

Marlin Leon "Mick" McDowell, 71, Red Wing, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Fairview Seminary Home, Red Wing, after living with cancer for six years. He was born May 21, 1937 in Olivia, MN, the son of Harold and Mayme (Hemze) McDowell. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1955 and served in the U. S. Army from 1955-1958. He married Mary Catherine "Kay" Kraft on August 29, 1964 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, MN. He graduated from Miller Hospital School of Radiology in 1961 and was a radiology technologist until 1965 at which time he returned to school, attending St. Mary's School of Anesthesia and received his CRNA in 1970. He worked at Hennepin County General Hospital from 1970 to 1972. The family moved to Red Wing in 1972 when Mick became the Director of Anesthesia at St. John's Hospital. He retired from Fairview Red Wing Hospital in 2002. He was a member of the Church of Saint Joseph, Red Wing BPOE #845, the Red Wing Golf Club and the Red Wing Yacht Club. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, woodworking, all sports and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of Red Wing; four sons: Brad (Jen) of Madison, WI, Jeff (Sarah) of Red Wing, Todd (Brenna) of Minneapolis and Steve of Bend, OR; seven grandchildren: LeEtta, Molly, Eddie, Beck, Leala, Sully and Michael; one sister, JoAnne Hegge of Kanab, UT; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Saint Joseph with Father Thomas Kommers presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p. m. Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
