Michael Henry Szymanski

Michael Henry Szymanski, 49, of Red Wing died July 24, 2013 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born December 10, 1963 to Henry and Virginia (Vasques) Szymanski in Sycamore, Ill. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Illinois and went onto attend Whitewater University in Wis. before transferring to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. There, he graduated with a degree in small business and went on to earn his Enrolled Agent Designation. In 1985 he moved to Red Wing. There he met Marilyn "Mickey" Seefeldt. The two were married at the St. James Hotel on March 25, 1989. He worked for and later purchased General Business Systems and renamed the business Red Wing Tax and Consulting. He was a great business man with a passion for teaching others. He was very competitive and loved to find a good deal. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and was an avid season ticket holder for Gopher volleyball, basketball and football. Mike and Mickey spent time traveling across the country, going to music concerts and riding motorcycles. He had his pilot's license and loved to fly. Mike was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE # 845 and of the YMCA. He will be remembered for being a loving and laid back guy.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey of Red Wing; son, Matthew Michael of Red Wing; parents Henry and Virginia of Winchester, Wis.; sister, Peggy (Rohit) Gupta of Santa Clara, Calif.; niece and nephew, Sabina and Rapheal Gupta; father and mother in-law, John and Pat Seefeldt of Minocqua, WI; sister-in-law, Kathy Seefeldt of Menasha, Wis.; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2013 at Cornerstone Community Church in Red Wing with Rev. Mark Kalb officiating. A visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to the family to be distributed between several local organizations at a later date.
