Michael Richards

Michael Richards, 79, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born on December 3, 1936 in Oroville, California to Patrick and Marianne (Sharpe) Richards. He graduated from high school in Oroville and attended college in California. On December 26, 1964, he married Kris Thomte in Whitehall, Wisconsin. To this union one daughter, Kelly was born. In 1968 they moved to Minneapolis. He worked in the insurance business moving to Red Wing in 1977. While living in Red Wing over the years, he was employed with Musty-Barnhart Agency and Citizens Security and retiring in 2003 after working for Explore Information Services. In retirement he and Kris wintered in Arizona and Florida and enjoyed many trips to Pittsburgh to visit Kelly and her family. He was a member of United Lutheran Church, Mississippi National Golf Links, where he volunteered many hours, and the Gold Prospectors Association of America. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, biking and giving presentations on gold and family history.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Kris; one daughter, Kelly (Carmine) Bellini and two grandchildren, Carly and Sam all of Pittsburgh; one sister, Trish Hicks of Miami, Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to United Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
