Michael Joseph O'Flaherty age 69 of Lake City, died Monday at the Lake City Nursing Home. He was born October 26, 1938 in Wabasha to Paul and Clementine (Wolfe) O'Flaherty. He attended Wabasha rural schools and worked on various farms. He began working for Federal Mogul in 1956 where mixed sand and made core for 20 years. He moved to Lake City and married Pearl Erickson in 1959, they later divorced. He married Nancy Plank-Sanford in 1968, they were later divorced. Later he was an owner/operator hauling for Knudsen Trucking until he retired in 2002 due to health problems. He enjoyed fishing/hunting, trucking, and having coffee with friends.
He is survived by sons, Mike (Besty) O'Flaherty of LaCresent and Ed O'Flaherty of Gailsville, WI; daughter, Brenda (Bret) Green of Grand Meadow; step-sons, Wayne (Sandy) Sanford of Dodge Center and Louie (Deb Herzig) Sanford of Lake City; brothers, Frank (Karen) of Wabasha and Rich (Barb) O'Flaherty of Lake City; and one sister, Kathleen Law of Wabasha.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City with Reverend James Russell officiating. Pallbearers will be John O'Flaherty, Matthew O'Flaherty, Richard Law, Corey Patrow, Greg Anderson, and Roy Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nathan, Brandon, and Katelyn Sandford, Tyler and Trever Green, Savanna Sanford, Elyse, Keith, Christina, and Skylar O'Flaherty. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. Felix Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
