Michael Patrick Kinyon, 81, of Red Wing passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 10, 2024 surrounded by family in a room filled with love. He was born in Waupun, Wisconsin on October 31, 1942 to Glenn and Ruth (Crain) Kinyon. He graduated from Waupun High School in 1961 and attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and the University of Minnesota.
Following college, Mike served two years in the Naval Air Reserves. He then took a leap of faith and invested in rental properties in the northern Twin Cities metro area. While living in one of the rental units, he met Rita Hudrlik. They married within a year. Three years later they welcomed the first of four daughters, followed two years later with twin girls.
He worked at UFE, a plastic injection molding company in Stillwater, until 1979 when he followed his passion for owning a business and purchased a concrete block manufacturing plant in Red Wing. He renamed the company Kinyon Concrete Products and relocated his young family from Stillwater to Red Wing. Shortly after they moved, they welcomed their fourth daughter to the family.
Mike loved being a part of the Red Wing community. He served as a member of the Red Wing Planning Advisory Committee and was extremely active with the Church of St. Joseph. He loved getting to know new people and establishing long-lasting relationships. He also loved watching NASCAR racing and visiting racetracks around the country.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Rita of 52 years; four daughters, Kathleen (Dave) Atwell, Christa (Bill) Baldridge, Carolyn (Joel) Voth, and Susan (Ben) Wallace; grandchildren, Anessa Atwell, Brenna Atwell, Melody Atwell, William Atwell, Michael Atwell, Marcella Wallace, Olivia Wallace, Mara Baldridge, and Ada Baldridge; sisters-in-law, Gladiz Kinyon and Martha Erdman, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Ruth Kinyon, his brother Patrick Kinyon, and his sister-in-law Gina O’Brien.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Joseph.
