Michael J. Kennedy, age 67, of Pine Island died unexpectedly on December 13, 2011 at his home in Pine Island. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Carolyn Westlake officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery with military honors by Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Michael Jon Kennedy was born on May 21, 1944 in Pine Island, MN to Karyl "Curly" and Barbara (nee Miller) Kennedy. He grew up in rural Pine Island, attended Pine Island Schools and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1962. Michael then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to study auto body repair. On July 20, 1965 he entered the U.S. Army. He married Jacqueline Hanson on October 19, 1965. Michael served during Vietnam and was honorably discharged on July 25, 1967. Jackie died on July 5, 1967. After his discharge, he returned to the Pine Island area and worked as a window glazer and helped on the family farm. Michael enjoyed working with the farm animals, fishing, riding his Harley and visiting with family and friends. Michael is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Ryan) Foley of Fredonia, WI; grandchildren, Isabelle, Ian and Jack Foley; mother, Barbara Kennedy of Pine Island; brother, Mark (Karen) Kennedy of Pine Island; nieces and nephew, Sarah (Adam) Hovden of Kasson, Lacey Kennedy of Rochester and John Kennedy of Pine Island. Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; father, Karyl "Curly" Kennedy and his grandparents.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
