Michael Iocco, Sr.

Michael Francis Iocco, Sr., age 92, of Wacouta, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. Born on March 28, 1916, Chicago, Illinois, to John and Angelina (Cristallo) Iocco. Raised in Chicago, he married Irene Klem on January 2, 1943. As a decorated World War II veteran, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 7th Armored Division at Normandy, Omaha and Utah Beaches, in the Battle of the Bulge and the entire World War II campaign. After the war, he worked at Majestic Printing in Chicago for thirty-five years. He and his wife moved to Wacouta in 1991 and was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, the Knights of Columbus and Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Irene; four sons, Michael, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Richard of Chicago, Allen (Janet) of Auburn, Massachusetts, and Gary (Vicki) of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Mary Beth, Katelyn and Leah; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Ethan; many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas Kommers officiating. Burial will be in Wacouta Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 ? 8 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with an American Legion prayer service at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the time of services Friday at the church.
