ROCHESTER The Funeral service for Michael D. Hemphill will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Rochester Chapel with Mayo Hospice Chaplain Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis, IA at a later date.
Mr. Hemphill, 44, of Rochester, died Saturday (May 24, 2008) at his home after an over two year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born July 29, 1963 in Burlington, IA, he was raised in, and graduated from High School in Mediapolis, IA in 1981. He then attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. He lived in Chicago before being a SCUBA instructor in the Caribbean for three months. He moved to Arizona where he met his wife and worked as a swimming pool service technician. He married Gina Page on Aug. 20, 2005 in Huron, SD. The couple lived in Glendale, AZ before moving to Rochester in 2007. He enjoyed SCUBA diving, hiking, and trail riding on four-wheelers.
He is survived by his wife and daughter Michaela Renee (23 months) of Rochester; his parents Bud and Gloria Hemphill, and his sister Deb (Tom) Mellinger, both of Mediapolis; father and mother-in-law Kirby and June Page of Iroquois, SD; and three brothers-in-law, Travis, Jason, and Jerad all of Brookings, SD. His paternal and maternal grandparents, and uncles, Dick and Lyle Clubb preceded him in death.
