Michael Jeffrey Flen, 77, of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, originally of Red Wing, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at his home. He was born April 8, 1943, in Red Wing, to John and Ruth (Purdy) Flen. He attended Red Wing Central High School and after his junior year, enlisted in the US Army and spent the next 12 years in service to his country. As an infantry platoon leader, he served 2 tours in Vietnam as well as Korea. According to his interview with the RW Republican Eagle in 2000, “he was proud to acknowledge that during his time in Vietnam leading men, he never had a single casualty”. After his military service, he did construction and carpentry work with Local 492 at NSP. Mike was guy that never complained. He was softie--a big teddy bear; easy to talk to, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed people. He was also a car and motorcycle guy and enjoyed collecting guns.
He is survived by his brother, Howard (Charmaine) Flen of Rochester; sister-in-law, Barbara Flen of Frontenac; 6 nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.
Michael will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with military honors. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
