Michael Joseph Conroy

Michael Joseph Conroy, 61, of Red Wing, died on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his home. He was born on February 5, 1952, in Red Wing, to Joseph and Madelyn (Grant) Conroy. He grew up in Maiden Rock and later moved to Red Wing where he attended Central High School. On April 15, 1970, Mike began working at the Red Wing Shoe Co. and was employed there for almost 40 years. He was married to Marilyn Holicky on November 17, 1973, by Judge Thomforde in Red Wing. Their marriage was blessed by the Church on January 25, 1974. Mike was baptized into the Catholic Church on February 20, 1983. He and Marilyn were blessed with three surviving children. He worked very hard in his life but family always came first for him. Mike enjoyed many hobbies including raising crops, snowmobiling, bowling, going to auctions, playing cards, hunting, and playing with children. When he retired, he bought a John Deere tractor that was his pride and joy. Mike used it to take his family on their annual pumpkin ride. He was a long time member of the Church of St. Joseph and the Redman Club. Mike always had something to say, but more than anything he will be remembered for having a big heart.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Red Wing; children, Mike, Jr. (Jenny) of Red Wing, Melissa Conroy of Red Wing, and Vincent Conroy of Red Wing; grandchildren, Kayden Tucker, Zoey Tucker, and Landon Conroy; siblings, Eugene Farnsworth of Columbus, OH, Linda (Jim) Pomerantz of Fairbault, MN, Tom (Sharon) Conroy of Red Wing, Karen Peters of Red Wing, Kathy Conroy of Ellicott City, MD, Richard (Kathleen) of Northfield, MN, Scott Conroy of Red Wing, and Julie Conroy of Red Wing; father-in-law, Vincent Holicky of Lee Center, MN; sister-in-law, Charlene (Rick) Manke of Lake Crystal, MN; brother-in-law, Greg Gernentz; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; parents; sisters, Susan Gernentz and Peggy Conroy; mother-in-law, Jeannine Holicky; and many aunts and uncles.

Mass of Ressurection will be 11 am Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
