Michael Joseph Collins, age 71, of Red Wing, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, at his home of natural causes. He was born on November 11, 1935, in Owatonna to Clarence Michael and Charlotte (Bartholomew) Collins. He was a 1953 graduate of Rochester Lourdes High School, attended St. Thomas University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Minnesota. He served in the U. S. Naval Reserve. He owned Northgate Liquor Store in Rochester. He was married in 1957 and later divorced. In 1963, he moved to Red Wing, where he was the executive officer and owner of First State Bank in Red Wing until his death. He was a life member of the Elks, served on the board of the American Heart Association and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He served on civic boards and contributed generously to the Red Wing area. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He was dedicated to his business and to his many loyal customers.
Survivors include one son, Michael H. (Julie) Collins of Rochester; one daughter, Mary Lee "Mindy" Collins of Ft. Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Michaela and Michael Collins; one sister, Ann Chafoulias of Rochester. His parents preceded him in death.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing, with Father Thomas Kommers, presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Red Wing. . Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
