Merlin A. ?Junior? Trelstad Jr. age 68 of Zumbrota died on Friday evening, January 19, 2007 at the Rochester Methodist Hospital following a five year struggle with Myelofiborosis with Myeloid Metaplasia and a three month battle with Leukemia. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street, Zumbrota with Reverend Tom Isaacson and Reverend Terje Hausken officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2007 from 4:00 ? 7:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Merlin Aldes Trelstad was born on October 12, 1938 in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Merlin and Mable (nee Hagre) Trelstad. He grew up in the rural Pine Island area and attended Bringgold Country School. On March 13, 1956 he entered the U.S. Navy. Junior was honorably discharged on September 18, 1959. After his discharge he returned to the Pine Island area. On February 24, 1962 he married Darlene E. Buck at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They made their home in Pine Island. Junior did work dehorning cattle and also worked as a welder for Pine Plating for over twenty years. In 1992 the family moved to Zumbrota. Junior worked for Thomas & Betts Company in Hager City, WI welding power poles for six years. He worked for Custom Iron in Zumbrota for four years and worked at PTM in Pine Island until he retired. Darlene retired after twenty seven years with the Zumbrota Schools food service. Junior was a member of the United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota and a retired member of the Pine Island Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, walleye tournament fishing, salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, camping, playing cards and motorcycle riding. Merlin is survived by his wife, Darlene, his son, Duane of Zumbrota, his mother, Mable Trelstad of Pine Island, and two brothers; Robert (Carol) Trelstad of Zumbrota and Dale Trelstad of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his father, Merlin, one brother, Leslie Trelstad and an infant sister, Patty Trelstad. Casketbearers are Greg Blakstad, John Quast, Bill Avery, Rev. Terje Hausken, Marcus Lunde and Brandon Lunde. Honorary bearers are the members of the Pine Island Fire Department.
