Merle Miller

Merle Miller, 85, of Red Wing, passed away September 8, 2009 at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center in Red Wing, Minnesota. He was born to Louis and Viola Miller on September 25, 1923 in Monona, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in rural Monona and graduated from Monona High School. Merle served in the Army during World War II in the heavy artillery unit at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He married Betty Bruehahn at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa on July 23, 1948. They farmed north of Luana for more than 30 years. Merle also sold Archer Oil for many years. Merle and Betty moved to Luana where he worked at Luana Creamery and then at the Corner Tap in Monona. He served on the Luana Town Council for several years. From 1994 to 2005 they were snowbirds spending winters in Mesa, Arizona. In 2005 they moved to Red Wing, Minnesota and have since resided at Jordan Towers.

Merle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; three children, Terry (Kim) Miller of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Cathy (Lance) Fischer of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Luann (Jerry) Brainard of Red Wing, Minnesota. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kylee Miller, Cody and Colton Lechnir, Angela (Inoke) Tukuafu, Nicholas Brainard, and two great-grandchildren, Kaia and Malea Tukuafu.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Luana Cemetery. Arrangements by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
