Beloved mother and Grandmother

Merle Magdeline Meyer was born August 27, 1916, to Benjamin and Lillian Gaylord in Hastings, Minnesota. She was moved to Red Wing at age 13 to be raised by her grandparents, Lillian and Osmer Gaylord. She graduated from Red wing High School and furthered her education at the University of Minnesota. She married Roy Meyer in 1934 and had two daughters, Carolyn and Judith. She had resided in a care facility in Roseville for the past 6 years to be near family.

She was a very devoted loving mother and grandmother and a very creative, teaching, energetic woman with a vibrant faith and a heart to help others. She was active and served in St. Paul's Lutheran church for many years. She initiated the St. John's Hospital Auxiliary, was one of the founders of Habitat for Humanity in Goodhue County, and gave many years of effort to those organizations. She served on the Red wing Area Fund and helped with the Seminary Memorial Home, Lutheran seminary students and Lutheran Social Service programs for those in need. She also assisted in her husband's businesses.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Carl) Mohn of Roseville and Judith (Alford) Penniman of Roscoe, Illinois; grandchildren: Craig (Suzi), Steven (Susan), Sara (William), Julie and Eric (Amy); thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Roy; sister, Beatrice; brother, Larry; grandson, Kevin; and great-grandson, Daniel.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristin Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be from 5 ? 7 p.m. Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran church or Eaglecrest Arbor of Roseville. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Eaglecrest and Fairview Hospice.
