Merle "Bud" Heine

Merle "Bud" Heine, 97, of Red Wing, died Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Bay View Care Center in Red Wing. He was born January 20, 1923 in Morris, MN to Albert and Elsie (Kalbus) Heine. He graduated from Morris High School in 1941, and then went on to attend North Dakota Agriculture College and Dunwoody Institute. He joined the Minnesota State Guard April 18, 1942 and then was drafted into the Army in 1943 where he served in Italy during WWII until 1944. He worked for Westinghouse until he moved to Red Wing in 1965. He then worked at Riviera Cabinets, working there until retiring in 1985. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he was an usher and the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54. Bud was interested in fitness and health, he enjoyed spending time with his siblings. During his time at Bayview Care Center he showed care and concern for his fellow residents.
He is survived by four nephews, Allen (Michelle) Heine of Grand Marais, MN, John Heine of North St. Paul, David Watson of Red Wing, Todd (Kathryn) Watson of Waconia; niece, Mary (Ralph) Rauterkus of Red Wing. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and sister in laws, Allen Sr. (Dorothy) and Howard (Marilyn Jane); sister and brother in law, Marion (Forrest) Watson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brighton Hospice, the Bay View Care Center and Ken Alpers for the excellent care and friendship they provided Bud.
Memorial service for Bud will be 11 a.m., June 26, 2020 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend Tyge Zucker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial with military honors provided by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54 to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
