Melvin B. Hanson, 98, formerly of Wanamingo died on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home in Zumbrota.
The funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Pastor David Krinke will be officiating. The visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
Melvin Hanson was born on June 16, 1911 in Cooperstown, North Dakota to John and Julia (Korstad) Hanson. He attended country school in North Dakota and Minnesota. On August 14, 1936 Melvin married Ora Estella Romo. The couple farmed in both rural Pine Island and Wanamingo. Ora preceded Melvin in death on September 13, 1991. Melvin enjoyed reading and was active in the nursing home's activities. Melvin was also an active member at the Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota.
Melvin is survived by his two sons, Duane (Charlene) Hanson of Zumbrota and Pastor James (Kari Jo) Hanson of Moorhead; five grandchildren, Tim (Sue) Hanson and Julie (Jeff) Canning both of Fargo, ND, Karis Larson of Winsted, MN, Eric (Maria) Hanson of New Hope, MN, and Judd (Amy) Hanson of Lacrosse, WI; six great grandchildren; and one brother, Bennie Hanson of Isle, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; and one brother.
Memorials are suggested to Lands Lutheran Church or the Zumbrota Nursing Home.
