Obituary Notice Mearl W. Johnson, Jr. Mearl William Johnson, Jr., 86, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, March 14, in Red Wing. He was born July 27, 1920 in Red Wing to Mearl and Ruth (Burkland) Johnson and was a 1938 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. During WW II he flew as a Tail Gunman on a B-17 Flying Forces with the 100th Bombardier Group. He married Doris Peterson on November 28, 1941. For over 40 years, he worked for Conwed Corporation. Doris died September 24, 1995. He was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge #8, a worthy patron of the Red Wing Order of Eastern Star #88 and the Lake City Chapter #75, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 and a life member of the 100th Bombardier Group. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word games, camping and small woodworking. He is survived by 3 children, David Johnson of LaGrange, GA, Cher Johnson and Kerry Johnson both of Red Wing; 2 grandsons; 2 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Rochelle) Johnson of Red Wing and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Erik, Brad, and Brett Johnson, and Red Reinhardt. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Russ Madsen, Jack Clopek, and Royce Malmquist. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with an Eastern Star Prayer Service at 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the donor?s choice.
