Maynard Vernon Wiberg, 88, of Red Wing, died Wednesday at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1918 in Maiden Rock, WI to Albert and Emily (Olson) Wiberg. He attended country school in Maiden Rock and worked on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army on July 31, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II until December 24, 1945. After returning he married Gladys Stromvall and the two lived and farmed in Plum City, WI. In 1964 they moved to Minneapolis where Maynard worked at Ebenezer Nursing Home as a maintenance and boiler engineer until 1987 when he retired. After retiring he worked on Wayne and Norma Jean Caturia?s farm fixing tractors, mowers, and other odd jobs. Gladys died on June 16, 1988. He then moved in with his daughter in Eden Prairie until 1989 when moved to Red Wing with his brother and sister. He was a member of the American Legion in Durand and Sabylund Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working on mowers, cars, and tractors; landscaping and gardening. Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen (Ken) Feder of Sarasota, FL; one granddaughter, Carol Elizabeth Page (Richard M. Jr.) Hailer of Ellenton, FL; one brother, Wallace of Red Wing. He was preceded by five sisters, Viola Wiberg, Gladys Caturia, Freda Nelson, Linda Wiberg; three brothers Alvin, Henry, and Arnold. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sabylund Lutheran in Stockholm, WI, with Reverend Tim Voigts officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
