Maxine Twila Heitman, 79, of Lake City, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at her home. She was born on August 17, 1929, in Lake City the daughter of Edward and Mollie (Bronkhusrt) Fetter. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1947. On September 15, 1949, she was married to Harlem "Hitch" Heitman. They lived in Lake City where she worked for Di-Acro from 1948 to 1984, Delcor Industries from 1984- 1987, Strobel and Hansen Attorneys in Red Wing for one year, Pepin Heights Orchard in Lake City for a few years and since 1989 has worked in medical records at the Red Wing Health Center in Red Wing. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she organized and was a member of the Lake City Bit and Spur and Saddle Club and also belonged to SEMSCA, Goodhue County Saddle Club, Minnesota Paint Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, Minnesota and American Quarter Horse Association and she trained a trick horse, Freckles. She raised horses, Boston Terriers and Australian Shepherds. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, reading, and lawn work. Her love for horses and Bostons will never die.


Survivors include three daughters, Dawn ( Mark) Krucker of Lake City, Shari Heitman of Lake City and Kathleen (Keith) Bey of Cannon Falls; four grandchildren, Travis and Kelsey Krucker and Samantha and Jordyn Bey. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.J. "Hitch", and one sister, Jane Bronkhurst.


Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Dennis Valleau officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
