Mavis M. Atkinson

Mavis M. Atkinson, age 98 of Pine Island died on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A Tribute Service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Mavis Marie Stafford was born on October 15, 1917 on the farm in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, MN to Markie and Isabelle (nee Bartholomew) Stafford. As a child her family moved around the area and Mavis attended several country schools. On July 8, 1936 she married Harold Atkinson in Wanamingo. They lived on several farms before settling in rural Oronoco. Together they farmed and Mavis also worked as a cook at the Pine Haven Care Center for ten years. Mavis loved being a mother and grandma and also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, making quilts, gardening and cooking, and spending time with friends and family. Mavis was a member of the Pine Island Senior Citizens.
Mavis is survived by her children, Richard (Joann) Atkinson of Zumbrota, Daryl (Bonnie) Atkinson of Duluth and Judy (Wilfred) Zeman of Glen Flora, WI; twelve grandchildren, Douglas Atkinson, Robert Atkinson, Dan Atkinson, Rita Prather, Donald Atkinson Jr., Laurie Hamblin, Pamela Olson, Kenneth Zeman, Jeffrey Zeman, Kevin Zeman, Ben Zeman, and Amanda Guthman; eighteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicole, Zachary, Austin, Brian, Chloe, Kalley, Brooke, Connor, Alyssia, Parker, Olivia, Ian, Alexis, Gabbriella, Brady, Summer and Trinity; two great-great-grandchildren and two brothers, Donald (Arlene) Stafford and Claude (Muriel) Stafford both of Dodge Center.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Donald; four sisters and three brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the Pine Island Senior Citizens Center.
