Maurice Michael "Boomer" McGrath

Maurice Michael "Boomer" McGrath, age 84 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Deercrest in Red Wing. He was born on November 25, 1929 in Hammond, MN to Thomas and Agnes (Wagner) McGrath. He grew up in the rural Plainview and Millville areas. On September 21, 1955 Maurice was united in marriage to Shirley Hippie in Plainview; they later divorced. He worked doing construction in the Lake City area for many years. Maurice later married Bev Smith in May 1993 in Petersburg, IN. The couple lived there until moving back to Lake City in 2002. Bev passed away in 2005. Maurice enjoyed camping, reading, and continued to do construction even after he retired. He was a member of the Lake City VFW Post #8729.
Maurice is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia McGrath and Cheryl Key, both of Lake City, MN; son, Tom (Pat) McGrath of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Nikki, Ryder (Kristen), and Cody McGrath; great-granddaughter, Kylee McGrath; four sisters, Margaret (Curt) Henry of St. Charles, MN, Mary (Frank) Olson of Plainview, MN, Irene Marshman of Plainview, MN, and Catherine Kerrins of Grand Meadow, MN; sister-in-law, Oma McGrath of Petersburg, IN; and his lifelong friend Shirley McGrath of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bev; parents; and four brothers, Jerauld, LaVerne, Peter, and Pat McGrath.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Lake City VFW Post #8729. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
