Mary Kay (Katherine) Johnson, 63, of Lake City, MN, passed away peacefully on March 18th, 2021, after a difficult battle with cancer. She was born on July 23rd, 1957 to parents Leo (Barney) and Sarah Freese in St. Paul, MN. She graduated in 1975 from Lincoln High School in Lake City, MN, and attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN. Mary Kay married Dennis Boege, together they had two children, Ben and Colleen; they were later divorced. She then married and divorced Tom Johnson.
Mary Kay was a co-owner of the Lake City Travel Connection for many years. She then managed several apartment and townhome complexes in Lake City. Most recently she worked as a librarian at the Lake City Public Library where her passion for reading and love of people of all ages merged. She brought many smiles and laughs to all who knew her. Mary Kay could be found on the golf course, traveling, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, participating in politics, shopping, entertaining and cooking, reading, snuggling her cat Olive, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by children, Ben (Monica) Boege of Lake City, MN, Colleen (Jeff and grandson Kroy) Blunk of Seattle, WA, and siblings Pat (Katie) Freese of Coon Rapids, MN, Bill Freese (Sue Mansur) of Apple Valley, MN, Sally (Denny) Mueller of Winona, MN, and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, Friday, March 26, with visitation one hour prior at St. Mary of the Lake in Lake City with Father Matt Fasnacht officiating. There will be a live stream of the service on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be held at Mahn Family Funeral Home in Lake City on Thursday, March 25, 5-7 PM.
