Mary Alice Mehrkens

Mary Alice Mehrkens, 75, of Red Wing, died at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Red Wing on February 24, 2019. She was born in Red Wing on June 13, 1943, daughter of Ivan and Ione (Heglund) Johnson. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1961 and began work at the First National Bank in Red Wing. She met her husband Dale Mehrkens, who was working at the Goodhue County National Bank, and they were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on January 6, 1962. She continued working until she became a stay at home mom raising her son Dan, her daughter Shelly and her daughter Tracey. Mary also did some part time work and volunteering. She was an accomplished quilter and made quilts for all seven grandchildren as well many others. She spent many years with friends and family boating on the Mississippi River and vacationing in Florida. She was a member of the Red Wing Country Club and won many awards. Mary Alice was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was selfless and kind, and always thinking of others before herself. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Clinton and Richard. She is survived by her husband Dale of 57 years; brother Fred (Irene) of East Falmouth, MA; sister-in-law, Arlene Urann of Anchorage, AK; children Daniel (Jean), of Cedartown, GA, Michelle Moen (Phil) of Eden Prairie, MN and Tracey Lenarz (Mike) of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Kyle, Trevor, Tanner, Cooper, Keaton, Sydney, Sophie and her many nephews and nieces. We will always remember her smiling face and the joy she brought to us every day.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 2, 2109 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Dana Jackson. Burial will be held in the spring at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn and at the church one hour prior to the service.
