Mary McCann, 88, of Lake City, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 7, 2021, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on January 19, 1933, at home in rural Vernon County to Edward and Vera (Ringhand) Jasperson. She grew up in rural Viroqua, WI on the family farm. After graduation from high school, Mary worked as a nurses aide at Mercy Hospital in La Crosse, WI. She was united in marriage to John McCann of La Crosse, WI on February 27, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI. They were blessed with four children. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s of The Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, St. Mary’s CCW, Lake City Hospital Auxiliary and Telecare for many years along with many hours of volunteer work for the Blood Mobile. We all learned from Mary to take pleasure in the simple things in life. She enjoyed reading, gardening, walking the bluffs around Lake City, identifying wildflowers, and the warm sun on her face. She also enjoyed country drives, looking at the hills, valleys, and farmland, pasture animals, especially baby farm animals in the spring, but most of all she loved her family.
Mary is survived by her children; Cynthia (William) Rudeen of Bird Island, MN, Daniel John McCann of Mora, MN, and Katherine (Bryce) Hinck of Lake City; grandchildren, Britta Lillion, Andrew Rudeen, Charles Rudeen, Rachel Rudeen, Jessica Hinck, and Benjamin Hinck; great-grandchildren, Brady, Elsie, Mae, Miles, and Sam Rudeen; and brother, Wayne (Ann) Jasperson of Rochester, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Michelle McCann; brothers, Maynard and Kenneth; and sisters, Betty, Darlene and Myrtle.
A public visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021, at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City. A private family mass will follow. Burial will be at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Cemetery. The family requests that all attendees of the visitation wear a mask. The mass will be livestreamed via Facebook and can be found on the Mahn Family Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Online condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
