Mary E. Lyon, age 65, of Zumbrota died on Friday, March 16, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church ? Aspelund with Reverend Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 5:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Mary Evelyn Bakke was born on May 5, 1941 in Forest City, Iowa to Milo and Inger (nee Estrem) Bakke. She grew up in Lake Mills and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1959. Mary attended Waldorf College and graduated from Luther College in 1963. In the fall of 1963 she started teaching elementary school in Wanamingo. On December 27, 1964 she married Lorin Lyon Jr. at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, IA. They made their home in Zumbrota and Mary continued her teaching career. Mary retired from the Zumbrota-Mazeppa School system. Mary enjoyed sewing, playing piano and raising flowers, especially in her rose garden. She was a member of the church choir, did volunteer reading at several nursing homes and had served on the Library Board. Mary is survived by her husband, Lorin ?Butch? Lyon Jr., one son, Marc (Cindy) Lyon of Zumbrota, two daughters, Lora (Georg) Wagner of Neillsville, WI and Melissa (Brian) Haugen of Zumbrota, three grandsons, Joshua, Matthew and Michael Lyon and two sisters, Elizabeth Francis and Ellen (Richard) MacGregor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Inger and two sisters, Martha Bakke and Alice Solum. The family suggests memorials to Mayo Hospice.
