ROCHESTER - Mary Frances (Burton) Henderson, age 89, passed from this life on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Seasons Hospice. Mary survived Breast Cancer, lived with Thyroid Cancer, and died from complications of Multiple Myeloma.
Mary was born in Bohon, Kentucky on Oct. 19, 1927 to Olis Lafon and Frances Burton. The family moved to Minnesota when Mary was nine years old. She attended Spring Valley and Stewartville schools, graduating in 1946. Mary met Clarence Henderson on a blind date, they were married in March of 1947. Mary stayed home to raise four children. In 1964 she went to work for the Mayo Clinic, working her way up to Supervisor of two X-ray desks. She retired in 1986.
Mary enjoyed many activities which include: Girl Scout, and Boy Scout Leader; Mother's Club; Red Hats; Chatter Club; Presbyterian Women; Coast Guard Auxiliary; Pioneers RV Club; Byron Sno-Bears; and Senior Citizens. Her interests were crafting, sewing, fishing, line dancing, and travel with Clarence in their RV.
She is survived by her children Peggy McCarty, and Linda Overton, both of Rochester; Al (Mary) Henderson of Texas; and Wesley (Neelam) Henderson of Virginia; eight grandchildren Angela, Nicole, Christopher, Lisa, Brandon, Benjamin, and Nisha, twelve great grandchildren Alexandra, Michael, Peter, Anna, Sophia, Sebastian, Cooper, Gabrielle, Kaiani, Selah, Sabina, and Delisa, her sister Bette (Bob) Carson, and three brothers Donald (Shirley) , David (Carole), and Steve (Char) Burton. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, who died Jan. 30, 2011, her parents, two sisters Ruthe and Anne, one brother Frank, and one grandson Brian.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, 3705 55th. St. N.W., in Rochester with Pastor Steve Sikes officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church, and a reception will be held following the service. An interment service will be held in the Spring of 2017 at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice or the Community Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
