Mary Gibson, 71, of Rochester, died Saturday September 13, 2014 at her home in Rochester.
Mary Ellen MacNeal was born March 2, 1943 in Lodi, Ohio, the daughter of Sherle and Geraldine MacNeal. She married James Sherwood Gibson in 1965. A graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1966, she taught school in Topeka, Kansas from 1966 until 1971. The Gibsons moved to Saint Louis, Missouri in 1974, and then to Minnesota in 1979. She was the President of Sherwood's Ladies Clothing from 1984 until 2010.
She is survived by her husband James Gibson of Rochester; a son Jeffrey (Sina) Gibson of Rochester; a daughter Paula (Ben Park) Hurley of Baltimore, Maryland; three grandchildren Tida, Ty, and Gibson; and a step-grandchild Sophie.
Mary belonged to the Downtown Kiwanis since 1990, served on its Board of Directors, and was its first female President in 1995. She was the Kiwanian of the Year in 1996, and was a George Hixson fellow in 2000. She served eight years on the Rochester Charter Commission.
She loved her family, and was passionate for photography. Family, old barns, interesting windows, wildlife along the Mississippi, and Fall were her favorite photographic subjects. She also loved cooking.
