Mary Jane Falk, 82, Red Wing, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born March 14, 1928, the daughter of Carl and Mildred Nelson, in Cokato, Minnesota and was a graduate of Cokato High School. On July 17, 1948 she married the love of her life, Marvin Falk. They made their homes in McMinnville, Oregon; Lake City, Minnesota and settled in Zumbrota, Minnesota in 1958. Also in 1958, Marvin and Mary started their own business, Falk Auto Body, in Zumbrota. They owned and operated it until retiring and selling the business to their son, Don Falk in 1983. After retiring, they spent their winters in Texas and Arizona, and their summers in Zumbrota. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the Zumbrota Golf Club. Mary loved her bridge club, golfing and reading. In her final chapter of life, she completely enjoyed the care and friendships she developed at St. Brigid's at Hi Park. She is known to all for her quick wit, sense of humor and continual smile.
Mary is survived by five children, Nancy (Gerald) Brezinski of Prior Lake, MN, Richard (Judy) Falk of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Donald (Nancy) Falk of Red Wing, Gerda Falk of Pearland, TX and Elizabeth (David) Berkstresser of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren, Todd (Shelly) Brezinski, Jennifer (Kerry) Marchessault, Ashlyn Falk, Matthew Schmidt (Missy Hoffman), Brian Schmidt (Teresa Carlson), Mary Berkstresser and William Berkstresser; 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Deloris (Duane) Triplett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents; sisters, Sandy Simmons and Barbara Wahl; brother, Donald Nelson and a grandson, Tyler Falk.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the chapel at St. Brigid's at Hi- Park with Dar Reeck officiating, followed by a celebration of Mary's life at Don and Nancy Falk's, 31587 Lakeview Ave., Red Wing. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Foundation.
