Mary Ellen (Sanborn) Miller, 87, of Lake City, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at her home at Elysian Senior Homes of Lake City.
She was born October 22, 1937 at home at 510 N. 7th St., Lake City. She was born 30 minutes after her twin sister, Eloise Ann. She was a life-long member of the Baptist Church, taught Sunday school for 45 years, played church organ for 35 years, plus many other duties at the church during her lifetime. Mary Ellen graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1955. Married Haven W. Miller on May 12, 1956 at the Calvary Baptist Church, in Lake City. Mary Ellen & Haven with their children farmed in Mount Pleasant Township (Spring Farm) for about 30 years before moving into Lake City in 1993. Mary Ellen was active in several groups over the year-Bittersweet Garden Club President, Library Board Secretary, Show & Share paint group, Red Hat Splashers, worked several summers at A&W frying hamburgers, and worked 3 summers baking at the Chickadee. She also worked 44 years in the office at Tennant & Hoyt; Pillsbury & Cargill Flour Mill of Lake City.
Mary Ellen loved music, flower gardening, crafts, water color painting, Pepe’, games and fine, cooking and baking, and going on trips to visit her children at their various duty stations, and visiting many places with her twin.
She is survived by her children; Bonnie (Ted) Johnson, Todd (Manon) Miller and DIL-Verna Miller; twin-Eloise (Marvin) Blattner; brother-F. David (Delores) Sanborn; 5 grandchildren: Haven C., Dacia V., Andrea, Ryan, and Kyle; great grandchildren: Autumn, Lincoln & Mara Miller, Mae, Evette & Alise Miller, Zachary & Lilly Miller, Ronin Poissant, Hank and Archie Holschuh and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Harold & Ellen Sanborn; husband, Haven Miller; son, Chuck; 2 brothers, H. Charles, and Wendell Sanborn; granddaughter, Ariel Johnson; and grandson, Matthew Miller.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the New Hope Church in Lake City.
