Margaret Mary Christensen, age 85 of Red Wing, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Mary was born on January 3, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Leo Michael and Margaret Mary (Singrin) Lanser. Mary grew up in Elkhorn, Wisconsin and graduated from Elkhorn High School. She was united in marriage to Bertram F. Christensen on August 27, 1948 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhorn. Bert died on March 15, 2000. Mary was active in the Red Wing Summer Playhouse, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and sang with the Madrigals now called the Red Wing Singers. She was also a founding member of the ABCD Club. She loved being with her family and friends and will always be remembered for her smile and happy nature.
Mary is survived by her children, Mark (Joy Yoshikawa) Christensen of St. Paul, Jeffrey (Kathy) Christensen of Stillwater, Mary Jane (Tom Dunlap) Christensen of Hastings, and David (Nancy) Christensen of Hudson; grandchildren Kiirsten Preble, AnaLeah Christensen, Lyssa Preble, Sam Christikawa, Mimi Christikawa, Simon Christensen, Joseph Christensen, and Antonio Christensen; and great-granddaughter McKenzie Motz; brothers David (Luisa) Lanser, and Matthew Lanser; and sister Jane Wisnewski. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram F. Christensen; infant son John; parents Leo and Margaret Mary (Singrin) Lanser; sister, Rosaline (Lanser) Dooley; and brother, Joseph Lanser.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at church. Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Joseph. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
