Mary M. Burdick, 96, of Zumbrota, MN, died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at her daughter's home in rural Wabasso. A Mass of Christian burial will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 30, 2012 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Bellechester. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and Monday one hour prior to the mass at the church.

Mary Mathilda Poncelet was born on August 20, 1915 in Bellechester to Mathias and Frances (nee Perrotti) Poncelet. Mary attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Mary E. McCahill Institute in Lake City. After graduation, Mary attended Normal Teachers Training in Mankato and taught in a country school near Bellechester. On June 7, 1938 she married Chester Freiheit in Bellechester. They made their home in Bellechester. Chester died in October of 1952. On February 9, 1955 she married Nelson A. Burdick in Mazeppa. They made their home and farmed in rural Zumbrota. Mary was very involved with the farm operation and especially enjoyed milking the cows. Nelson died on December 24, 1991. Mary was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.

Mary is survived by children, Darleen Freiheit of WI, Roger Burdick of Zumbrota, Ralph (Jane) Burdick of Pine Island, Mary Clare (Bernard) Goblirsch of Wabasso, MN, Adrian (Dolores) Burdick of Mazeppa, James (Julie) Burdick of Zumbrota, Theresa Woody of Orion, IL and Daniel (Jean) Burdick of Zumbrota, 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Denny) McWaters of Zumbrota; and sister-in-law, Marion Burdick of Kasson.

Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Chester and Nelson; son, Richard; grandson, Michael Goblirsch, parents, Mathias and Frances Poncelet, brothers, Ted, Joe, Tony and Matt Poncelet and sisters, Tracy Munson, Anna Palzer, Frances Luland, Martha Wagner and Christine Arndt.
