Mary L. Anderson

January 30, 1933 — October 26, 2017

Mary L. Anderson, 84, of Red Wing received her wings to heaven on October 26, 2017 at her home at Deer Crest. She was born on January 30, 1933 to Evelyn (Johnson) and Axel Bergstrom at their home in Pine Creek. The family moved to Maiden Rock in her early days. Mary attended Maiden Rock schools and graduated in 1951. During her high school years, she was a waitress at "Metros" in Minneapolis and at the Bay City Diner in Bay City where she met her future husband Charles Anderson. On June 7, 1952 the couple was married at Tabor Lutheran Church outside of Bay City where they were long time members. Early in their marriage they lived in Bay City and Warrentown and in 1958 bought a farm on Warrentown Hill. During this time they had two daughters Dorothea and Kathy. Mary was a housewife, mother, wonderful cook and baker, and worked side-by-side with her husband on their farm.

In 1972, Mary began her career at Jostens in Red Wing. Mary worked the "Old Fashioned" printing press. She was so proud to print Dorothea's high school, college and graduate school diplomas as well as Kathy's high school diploma. During that time, Charles and Mary sold their farm and built their dream home in Bay City. In 1997, Mary retired from Jostens after 25 years. Her comment was, "Jostens is becoming digitalized and it is time to quit." She and Charles moved to Red Wing and joined First Lutheran Church in 1993, after they sold their home in Bay City. Mary and Charles enjoyed fishing, eating out, traveling and spending time with family and friends at various special events, holidays and reunions. Charles passed away in April of 1998. Several years after his passing, she met her special friend Walley Erickson. Walley introduced her to dancing and they danced across America. They even won a trophy in a Polka Dance competition. Walley and Mary's families embraced each other and have now become a larger extended family.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Dorothea (Wayne) Stahlkopf and Kathy (Don) Klein; grandchildren, Dan (Tracy), Shanna (John) and Chris (Tracy); great-grandchildren, Ethan, Will, Breanna, John, Michael, Cameron and Brody; two sisters, Evely Yates and Betty Jensen and Mary's special friend, Walley Erickson and his family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; a brother, Floyd Bergstrom; nephews David Trout and Axel Bergstrom; sisters in law, Lorraine Althoff, Lucille Anderson and Carol Bergstrom; brothers in law, Howard Anderson, Dwight Anderson, Charles Yates, Vern Jensen and Arnie Althoff.
