Marvis A. Birkenmayer’s long good-bye is finally over. She left this world peacefully surrounded by her daughters on January 31, 2025 at the age of 81.
Marvis was born on August 18, 1943 in Sleepy Eye, MN, and after her family moved, attended South St. Paul High School and graduated with the class of ‘61. While living in West St. Paul, she and her first husband welcomed their two daughters. She later married Dave Birkenmayer, her sweetheart of 37 years. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of all who knew her with her kindness, friendship and her servant’s heart. As a mother, she devoted herself to her girls and as Grammy B, she poured endless love into her grandchildren whom she adored.
Before her illness took too much of her, Marvis was an active member of Cornerstone Community Church where she sought to know her Savior more deeply. She loved being a helper in Sunday School for the little ones, as well as, holding babies in the nursery at church and for the local homeschool group. She and Dave enjoyed frequenting shops and restaurants in and around Red Wing. She supported Dave in his many community service outreaches such as the Hiawatha Valley-Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and the Memorial Day Field of Honor.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and friendship that will never be forgotten. Her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends (especially the Fab 4) all of whom were blessed to know her.
Marvis was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, who cared for her throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s until his recent passing. Also, by her twin brother, Marvin Pickle and her sisters, Margie and Debbie. She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Mark) Place and Kim (Cameron) Bump, and two stepchildren. Also by her grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Andrew (Macy), Leah, Claire, Ethan, Jacob and Chloe. She is also survived her sisters Colleen (Tom) and Darleen and many nieces.
A visitation to be held at Eagle Brook Church (formerly Cornerstone Community Church) in Red Wing scheduled for Thursday, February 6 from 5pm-7pm and on Friday, February 7 from 10am-11am with a celebration of Marvis' life beginning at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Choice Clinic, Red Wing.
