Marvin Joseph Walstad, 94, of Zumbrota, MN, died Monday, August 30, 2021, at his son’s home surrounded by his entire family. Marvin was born on September 23, 1926, in Red Wing MN, the son of Joseph and Mabel (Stromme) Walstad. He graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1944. In November of 1950, he was drafted and served in the Korean War, in the Army Infantry as a machine gunner. On September 3, 1951, he was seriously wounded in action by a grenade. He was honorably discharged on October 8, 1952 and received a Purple Heart medal, Bronze Star, a Korean Service medal, and a Combat Infantry badge. On June 30, 1962, he married Clarice Blakstad at Minneola Lutheran Church. They made their home in rural Zumbrota. Marvin ran his own milk transfer business for 25 years before selling the route. He then worked at Cannon Equipment for 12 years, retiring in 1989. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, smoking cigars, but most of all driving the boat and teaching so many people, including his grandchildren how to waterski. Because of his heart and love for kids and animals he always had treats for them.
Marvin will be dearly missed and survived by his son, Todd (Deb); daughter, Kim (Mike Overby); granddaughter, Kindra Walstad; grandson, Austin Walstad; sisters-in-law, Judy Blakstad, Janet Ramstad, and Mary Peterson; several nieces and nephews; the Nelson and Lindhart families.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Clarice; his parents; brother, Orland Walstad; several brothers and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service for Marvin will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Aspelund with Reverend Lyle Aadahl officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be at the Minneola Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service. The service will be live-streamed on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page.
