Marvin Rigelman

Marvin N. Rigelman, 87, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born November 15, 1921 in Red Wing to Ben and Fritzella (Heins) Rigelman. He was a city letter carrier for thirty years, retiring in 1977. He then worked for Central Research for four years. He was in the Minnesota State Guard from 1941 until August of 1942 when he entered the Army. A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in Europe with General Patton's 3rd Army and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He also served 1 ½ years in the Army Reserve during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1218 in Red Wing, the 16th Armored Association, and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a 32 degree member of the Scottish Rite of Rochester, the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Zuhrah Shrine Temple of Minneapolis where he also served as a charter member of Zuhrah Past Masters, and was a past member of the old Red Wing Civic Male Chorus. In the 1950s he served on the First Lutheran Church board and was Scout Master of Troop 32 of First Lutheran Church. He also emceed at many retirement parties, dinners, and reunions.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Delma; four daughters, Jane (Mike) Meier of Red Wing, Jill (William) Johnson of Plymouth, Gretchen (Bertrand) James of Minneapolis, and Heidi Marx of Chanhassen; two sons, Hans (Toni) of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Karl (Annamarie) of Minnetonka; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joyce Nelson, and one brother, Duane Rigelman.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Pastor Richard Ellis officiating. Private family interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be William Johnson, Michael Meier, Erik Meier, Hans Rigelman, Karl Rigelman, and Heidi Marx. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the Masonic Cancer Center Fund.
