Marvin A. "Marv" Jech, 66, of Rochester, formerly of Red Wing, MN, died Saturday (April 6, 2013) as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Eyota, MN.
Marvin Allen Jech was born Sept. 6, 1946 in Austin, MN to Adolph and Loretta (Marten) Jech. He was raised in Elkton, MN where he graduated from High School in 1964. He worked for the Railroad before entering the U.S. Army in 1965 serving at Fort Benning, GA until his discharge in 1967. Marv married Janet Lange on April 6, 1968 at the Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams, MN. The couple lived in Rochester, Richfield, and Elkton areas before moving to Red Wing. He was the Superintendant of the Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant in Red Wing for 31 years. He retired after receiving a lung transplant on May 2, 2003. Marv was an active volunteer and educator in organ and tissue donation for LifeSource, receiving in 2008 the Volunteer of the Year Award. He served on the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center Board of Directors and volunteered on many programs. He also he was a Firearms Safety Instructor for 30 years and volunteered at Mayo Clinic Blood Donation Center. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester, and the American Legion in Red Wing. Marv was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and assisted his friend, Dan Fryer, in teaching custom rod building.
Survivors include his wife Jan, his son, Jason (Jackie) Jech of Red Wing; daughters, Jenna Jech of Red Wing; and Julie (Reed) Degener of Rochester; grandchildren, Jayden, Jackson, Joycie, Haylay, Cael, Tate, and Addison, his sister, Barb Olson of Minneapolis, MN; and his sister-in-law JoAnne Jech of Minneapolis, nieces, nephews, his donor and organ receipt family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald, and his brother-in-law Pat Olson. His beloved dog "TJ" was with Marv at the time of the accident, he also did not survive.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Moody officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be given to LifeSource, or the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center.
