Marty C. Marks

Marty Charles Marks, 59, of Red Wing died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at his home. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charles and Pearl (Christenson) Marks on February 28, 1957. When he was 12-years-old he moved to Red Wing where he attended school, graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1975. He held many jobs through the years, including working as the janitor for St. Joseph church and school. However, his favorite job was working as a taxi and limo driver where he had great conversations with lots of interesting people and even met a few famous ones. Marty loved music and enjoyed playing guitar. He was very close with is family and loved being a grandfather. He was known for calling his friends and family bright and early just to check in. Marty knew how to have a good time and enjoyed going to the casino. Most of all, he will be remembered for his generosity and big heart. Marty was always willing to help out a friend.
Marty is survived by his two children, Charles (Kylie) Marks of Lake City and Cassandra (Jayce) Aslakson of Red Wing; three grandchildren, Kamdyn, Kason and Elijah; two brothers, Guy (Carol) Thompson and Billy Thompson, both of Red Wing; his best friend and nephew, Michael "Pork" Czerwinski of Red Wing; as well as many other nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Preble; the mother of his children, Laura Balmer; and his parents.
A celebration of Marty's life will be 1p.m., Friday September 23, 2016 at the Pepin Woods Community Center. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a GoFundMe page for Marty at www.gofundme.com/2pmeh5xr?ssid. Online condolences maybe left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
