Martin A. "Butch" Prokasky age 94 of Chatfield, formerly of Mazeppa died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa with Father Joseph Keefe and Father Joseph LaPlante officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post #1802 of Zumbro Falls and the Mazeppa Veterans Honors Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Martin Adolph Prokasky Jr. was born On January 1, 1914 in Pinckneyville, IL to Martin and Gertrude (nee Vogel) Prokasky. As a child his family moved to Minnesota. He attended country school and farmed with his parents in rural Mazeppa. On February 16, 1942 he married Rosella V. Miller. On June 13, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army. He served as a tank commander in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. On January 10, 1946 he was honorably discharged and they returned to Mazeppa. Butch worked as a cement mason for Doyle � Connor Construction for many years and after he retired he worked for the Zumbrota Sales Barn for a number of years. In 2002 he moved to Chatfield to be closer to his daughter and in 2007 he entered the Chosen Valley Care Center. Butch was a member of VFW Post #1802 in Zumbro Falls and the Mazeppa Senior Citizens. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking and trapping gophers (all of which he continued to do into his 80's) and being with his family, especially his great granddaughters. Butch is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Ross) Goldsmith of Chatfield, four grandsons; Chris (Kari) Goldsmith, Tim (Signe) Goldsmith, Josh (Erika) Goldsmith and Jake (Fannie) O'Gorman, five great-granddaughters, Kaci, Kelsi, Solveigh, Svea and Harper Goldsmith and a brother, Max "Jack" Prokasky of Independence, WI. Butch was preceded in death by his wife Rosella in 1990, a son Daniel in 1979, a great grandson, Blake, four brothers and three sisters. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
