Martha Helen Wiggins

Martha Helen Wiggins, age 84 of Rochester died Friday July 4, 2014 at Madonna Towers in Rochester, Minnesota.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday July 8th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with the Reverend Harry Jewison officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Luverne, Minnesota, at a later date.
Martha Helen Wiggins was born on September 3, 1929 in Luverne, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Hilda (Hassler) Wiggins. Martha and her family lived on the farm and she attended Hardwick Grade School. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1947. She attended Mankato State Teachers College and acquired her master's degree in education from the University of Minnesota. She taught in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the Minnetonka School District from September 1955 to August 1986 in elementary education at the Groveland and Deephaven Elementary Schools.
Martha was an active member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church (formerly St. Joseph's Catholic Church) in Hopkins, MN. She put many hours into volunteer work with the Minnetonka Life- Care Center and helped the elderly/shut-ins with meals and library book distribution. She greatly enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, long walks, golfing, and exercising and socializing at the YMCA. Martha lived in the Minnetonka area until moving to Madonna Meadows in Rochester in May of 2013.
Martha is survived by her brothers James Wiggins, of Denison, Texas and Fred (Gloria) Wiggins of Rochester Hills, Michigan; brother-in-law Dean Thul of Mankato, MN, and sister-in-law Veronica Wiggins of Storm Lake, Iowa; caregiver and niece: Peggy (Doug) Noga of Rochester, MN, and many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Thul and one brother, Joseph Wiggins.
Memorials in Martha's name may be given to the Southwest Options for Women, (formerly the Life-Care Center of Minnetonka), or to St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in Hopkins, MN.
Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
