Martha Marie Maloney, 99, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at her home in Potter Ridge. She was born November 26, 1920 in Portsmouth, Ohio, one of 11 children, to Louis and Madeline Vetter. She grew up in Portsmouth and graduated, class of 1938, from St. Mary’s High School. She met her husband in 1941 and just five months later, on January 7, 1942 she married Charles Maloney. Only days later, Charles left to serve in the Army until his honorable discharge in 1945. He worked for Wheeling Steel and his job took the couple all over the Midwest. They lived in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin before he retired in 1982 and they moved to Florida. Charles passed away in 2009. Martha then joined her daughter in Wisconsin and later Minnesota where she lived at Potter’s Ridge for 5 years. Martha was a life-long Catholic and she and Charles were active in the Knights of Columbus. They were also members of Stoughton Lions Club while in Wisconsin. She was fantastic cook and a wonderful hostess. She kept a beautiful home and always made holidays a special time for her family. Her lemon pie earned the nickname Lullaby Pie. She loved to golf and she only gave up Bridge when she could no longer see the cards.
She is survived by her children; Martha “Jeannie” Mueller of Red Wing, Minn., Susan Kugel of Lancaster, Pa., Timothy of Sarasota, Fla., Thomas (Kathie) of Scottsdale, Ariz. And Michael (Karla) of Columbia, S.C.; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Madeline Wiggins of Columbus, Ohio and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Maloney.
She is preceded in death by her husband; one son, John; 9 brothers and sisters and her parents.
A funeral service will be 5 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Masks are required. Burial will be at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, Florida.
