Martha Bergina Johnson, 101, of Red Wing, died Saturday morning, December 30, 2006 at St. Brigid?s at Hi- Park in Red Wing. She was born on September 12, 1905 in Etter, Minnesota to Einar and Katherine Veseth. She attended country school in Etter and Red Wing Seminary. She graduated in 1928 from St. Olaf College in Northfield and followed one year of post graduate study at the University of Minnesota. On June 24, 1931 she married David A. Johnson at Etter. They lived in Hastings where they owned and operated the Hastings Oil Company. She was an active member of Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church in Hastings where she taught Sunday School and served as organist. In 1955 they moved to their farm in the Etter area and farmed until in 1966 when they retired and moved to Red Wing. David died on January 31, 1970. For the next 15 years she traveled world wide, visiting every continent except South America. She traveled to Mexico, Canada and most of the United States. She was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the women?s organizations. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needle point. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Martin and Arthur Veseth and one sister, Luella Quammen. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn chapel.
