Marlys Mary O’Heron-Thomas, 88, of Hager City, Wisconsin, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 at the Ellsworth Care Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Plum City, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Mildred (Suter) Hei. She graduated from Plum City High School and after attending school in the Twin Cities, she began working as a lab/x-ray technician in Caledonia, Minnesota. While living in Caledonia, she met her husband, Arthur “Mick” O’Heron and they were married, they lived in Virginia while he was in the military. They returned to her hometown of Plum City, where they made their home and raised their family. Marlys worked for the Plum City School District for 30 years, making and serving hot lunches for the elementary students. She also worked as a CNA at the Plum City Care Center for 16 years. Mick died on Oct. 13, 1986. She later married Lawrence Thomas on August 2, 2003 at St. John’s Church in Plum City and they lived in Hager City. Marlys had been a member of St. John’s Church in Plum City and later became a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. She grew up with horses and always enjoyed riding them and had love for all animals. She also enjoyed riding motorcycle, going to rodeos, traveling and camping in their RV and dancing. Marlys will forever be remembered by her family and friends as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She was a constant source of strength and support for those around her throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband and dancing partner, Lawrence Thomas of Hager City; daughter, Peggy (Tony) Moen of Menomonie; son, Todd (Kim) O’Heron of Cookeville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jenna (Josh Gillingham) Moen and Austin (Lauren) Moen and Michael, Sam and Emma O’Heron; step-son, Larry (Teri) Thomas of Lakewood, Colorado; brother Dean (Marlene) Hei of Winona and sister, Gail (Rollie) Hunt of Amery and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur “Mick” O’Heron; 2 sons, Timothy and Michael O’Heron; sister, Joan Robertson and brothers, Larry and Jack Hei.
Mass of the resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at Church of St. Joseph with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Plum City at a later date. Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
