Marlys Lucille Long, age 87 passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 in her home. Marlys was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1937. She was raised in Wabasha and Red Wing, graduating from Rasmussen College.
During and after college, Marlys was a nanny for a wonderful local family with 4 children then raised her own family.
She is survived by sons: Gregg Drury, Tom Drury and wife Julie, Ross Drury and wife Kanyapapat (Jube Jeang), William (Shawn) Drury and daughter Sara Drury and partner Rosie Kidman; Grandchildren Aja Drury, Ronan and Sula Drury, Puri Drury; Step-Children: Steven Long and wife Cathy, Lisa Olson and husband Tim; Step-Grandchildren: Stephanie Williams and husband Jon, Andrea Aldinger and husband Brandon; Step Great- Grandchildren: Ethan and Anna Williams, Logan and Roan Aldinger, Nieces: Elizabeth Drury, Erin and husband Reagan Hadrits, Linn Drury; Nephew: Sean Drury and wife Kerry, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Long, son Paul Drury, parents Leona and Harris Jacobson and Mother Nellie Jacobson.
Marlys and Carl moved around with his university career, setting up homes in North Dakota, Wyoming and Illinois. They finally settled back in Red Wing.
Over the years, Marlys enjoyed music, dancing, ice skating, skiing and boating, but her favorite activities were gardening and spending time with her dogs.
A celebration of Marlys’s life will be held in the Summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the National Humane Society https://www.nationalhumanesociety.org/donate
