Marlyn Elmer Peterson

A memorial service will be held for Marlyn Peterson on Saturday January 10th at 1:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. The Reverend Fred Rengstorf will officiate. Ennichement of the cremated remains will occur in Spring 2015 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Mr. Peterson, 91, of Rochester, died Tuesday December 30, 2014 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Marlyn Elmer Peterson was born July 19, 1923 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Gertrude Peterson. Raised in Albert Lea, he was a graduate of Albert Lea High School with the Class of 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed Arizona, California, and Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He then attended Aircraft and Engineer School in Wichita, Kansas, and then began working with his father at Midway Motors in Albert Lea. On January 8, 1950, at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, he married Ethel Hove. After a move to Rochester, he began working as an airplane mechanic at Gopher Aviation, where he worked for twenty years. Following a move to Stevens Point, Wisconsin, he continued as a mechanic for Sentry Insurance's aviation department. Maintaining the company's jets, he travelled extensively throughout the world with Sentry Insurance. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Peterson of Rochester; a son, Mark (Marsha) Peterson of Rochester; daughter, Pamela (Thomas W.) Paget of Woodbury; grandchildren, Kyle (Tina) Peterson, Lindsey (Jason) Meek, Brittany Paget, Thomas A. Paget, and Tyler Paget: and a great-grandson, Noah Peterson. Also surviving is a sister, Joyce Peterson of Eagan; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hove of Winston, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Gayle Renker and her husband Harry.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Research at Mayo Clinic, or to Mayo Hospice. Online tributes are being welcomed, and may be written at this website.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of Mayo Hospice and Seasons Hospice.
