Marlyn J. Bordson, age 84, of Wanamingo died on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
Marlyn Jennings Bordson was born on September 5, 1927 in rural Wanamingo, MN to Harold and Idella (nee Hoven) Bordson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1945. After high school he entered the U.S. Navy, served during World War II and was honorably discharged. After his discharge he returned to the family farm and on September 10, 1949 he married Audrey Ree at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They were members of Minneola Lutheran Church for many years, before becoming members at Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home on the Bordson family farm. He farmed for many years and also worked as a rural mail carrier. In September of 1992 they moved into Wanamingo. Marlyn retired from the USPS and after his retirement he worked part-time for Cenex in Wanamingo. Marlyn enjoyed spending winters in Florida, traveling, coffee with his friends and gardening, especially tomatoes and peppers. Marlyn was a charter member of the Wanamingo Lions Club and served on the Elevator Board.
Marlyn is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children, Patricia (Darryl) Grendahl of Brainerd, Bruce (Susan) Bordson of Wanamingo, Rebecca (Bruce) Baker of Wanamingo, Gretchen Bordson and fiancé Eugene Benson of Wanamingo and Jodeen (Kyle) Halvorson of Wanamingo; twelve grandchildren, Sara Clayton, Jason (Marissa) Grendahl, Jessup (Juliet) Bordson, Miranda Bordson, Wyatt Yeager, Jill (Ryan) Durst, Troy (Elyse) Baker, Tracy (Christopher) Graham, Anna Gullickson and fiancé Sam Edmunds, Corey Halvorson, Tucker (Anna) Halvorson and Tyler Halvorson; nine great-grandchildren, Delaney and Trajen Clayton, Asher and Parker Grendahl, Isabella and Olivia Bordson, Kinsley Durst, Marelo and Rayhan Becker; brother, Lyle (Darlene) Bordson of Bloomington and sister, Yvonne Johnson of Bloomington. Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.
