Mark Gerald Burfeind, age 57, of Lake City, passed away on December 22nd in Rochester after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born on February 8, 1954 in Lake City, MN to Gerald and Mary Ann (Banitt) Burfeind. He was baptized and confirmed at St Peters Church in Belvidere. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1972 and from Rochester Area Vocational - Technical Institute in 1974 from the Automobile Mechanic Program. Mark married Diane Peters in Lake City on August 10, 1974. Mark was employed at Banitt Motors in Red Wing from 1973 to 1990, mainly as their transmission mechanic. He then farmed with his brother Paul from 1990 to 2009. In 2009, he started and operated his own farm repair business, Burf Inc., until becoming ill in January 2011. Mark was an active member of St John's Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue, where he loved to usher and served as an elder and church president. Mark loved spending time with his children, going on drives with his wife, snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, the outdoors and history.
Mark is survived by his wife Diane; his three children, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Ryan (Molly); his parents, Gerald and Mary Ann of Lake City; and his three brothers, Paul (Elaine), John, and Scott (Leslie Ann).
Mark is preceded in death by his brother Joel.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with Reverend Andrew Krause officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at St John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City, MN. Memorials are preferred to Brains Together for a Cure, a support group that raises money for brain tumor research at the Mayo Clinic.
