Roger Knudtsen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at the age of 99. He was born in Henning, Minnesota, and was known throughout his life for an unwavering christian faith, and a deep and abiding love of family and country.
Roger was the good and faithful servant—emblematic of his “Greatest Generation”. He was a humble and generous man, who always looked for the good in others. With an unyielding positive outlook and sense of personal responsibility, Roger found success as an independent dairy farmer, merchant marine in World War II, and insurance professional with Lutheran Brotherhood/Thrivent. His deep sense of citizenship often led him to leadership roles in church and civic organizations. In Red Wing, he was a past Congregation President at Concordia Lutheran Church, and a Chapter President of Kiwanis Club.
He was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Anna Knudtsen, sisters Marcella Danielson and Ardell Palmquist, and brother Ronald Knudtsen. Roger is survived by Anita, his loving wife of 77 years; daughters Brenda Hennessey (Peter) and Marcia Abbott (Steve); granddaughter Jessica Hennessey (Steven Tingle); and all those he touched with his kindness and service to others.
Visitation (10:00 am - 10:45 am) and a Memorial Service (11:00 am) will take place at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1805 Bush St., Red Wing, Minnesota 55066, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Attendees are invited to stay for a fellowship meal with family following the Memorial Service.
In the light of Roger’s passion for church outreach missions that spread the word of God and share the love of Christ, memorial contributions should go to any outreach effort of your choice—or to Outreach Missions & Ministries of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
